Van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Run at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

After a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
