The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
