Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell Reportedly Seeking Clemency, Insider Alleges to Congressional Democrats

According to new allegations from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a clemency request for consideration by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a whistleblower provided evidence indicating Maxwell is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, stated in a official statement that the prison’s warden was assisting Maxwell with document preparation and submission to support her bid for clemency.

Specific details of the clemency request are unknown, the congressman noted.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, per the insider, Maxwell has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for Maxwell and her visitors.

These meetings reportedly involve a “special cordoned-off area” for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Maxwell’s visitors were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and chance of unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other prisoners, Maxwell was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to contact and how staff would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents promptly, she reportedly employed the warden as her private aide.

The statement indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and return them to the warden to digitize and send to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Reported

Further perks reportedly provided to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a benefit typically prohibited – as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.

Maxwell’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the White House said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has considered,” the representative added.

Context and Developments

Recently, it was reported that she told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her former location.

This past summer, Maxwell was moved from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most detainees are serving time for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

This move, which authorities called as exceptional, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Epstein case by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as the President's private attorney.

That interview came as the administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own connections to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, the congressman also announced that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, demanding answers about the whistleblower’s allegations, and urged the chief executive to reject the clemency appeal.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” the representative stated in the document. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

Raskin requested that the official attend a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also posed three questions to the President.

He inquired whether he had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to arrange her with the move or special conditions in detention, and whether she, her lawyers, relatives or agents have made any promises to Trump or his legal team.

The representative requested for a reply to the inquiries by 24 November.

Last month, the US supreme court declined to hear an appeal from the convict on her sex-trafficking conviction.
